The decision by the family to keep the original inscription, when it was from an 'unknown', I think is a wonderful one as the grave had come to represent ALL children killed by the disaster. So, Bravo for the I.D., but in a muted, sad way.
The phenomenon everyone is looking at here is "hydrostatic pressure". The explosion liquified the crews organs and killed them all instantly.
Always figured the closeness to the explosion at least stunned them enough to incapacitate the crew long enough until they ran out of air to breath and the submarine drifted until finally settling on the bottom.
I visited the Titanic victims at this cemetery while in Halifax about a year ago. There are also victims of the munition ships explosion in 1917 resting there.

You presented an interesting thesis. This attack was also the first time someone had the attacking vessel close to an underwater explosion. Even if the blast didn't kill the men directly, could it have incapacitated the men long enough to the flooding or CO2 buildup to finish them off.
